We are in dire need of textbooks, reading books, school supplies of all kinds; food such as sugar and maize; and clothes, blankets.
The Jacaranda school is a realistic and highly efficient project. Every dollar, euro, pound or kwacha raised is maximized to benefit the children. The impact is immediate and makes a tremendous difference.
Our team is entirely made of volunteers. Luc Deschamps, the director of the Jacaranda Foundation, is based in Malawi and supervises the development of the school.
Your donation will contribute to:
* Feeding and educating 400 orphans
* Operating AIDS prevention and health programs
* Paying teachers and headmaster's salaries
* Purchasing textbooks and classrooms equipment.
* Building a physics and science laboratory
We have finished the construction of the secondary school made of four classrooms that each accomodates 30 students, and the construction of sixteen toilets with running water, as well as a library/study room. We are currently building a physics and science laboratory to give the children a chance to pass their exams and enter university.

Our goals for 2011
We hope to be able to:
* Equip the school: we lack textbooks, espcially at secondary school level.
* Hire additional teachers: so far, all our secondary school teachers teach two or even three different subjects.
* Build a physics and science laboratory: to pursue medical and scientific studies in Malawi, students must take physical science as a subject in secondary school, which is not possible without a laboratory. Once we build the laboratory, the children will have a chance to become doctors, nurses or engineers.
* Teach AIDS as a subject in secondary school: our goal is to gather a team of experts, both internationally and in Malawi, who will prepare an “AIDS as a subject” curriculum for secondary schools. We will start teaching the subject at the Jacaranda school, and then train teachers throughout Malawi and Africa, so that all aspects of AIDS are systematically taught in schools. Most of our students have lost their parents because of AIDS, and several are HIV positive: they deserve to fully understand the disease and its implications in order to cope with the devastation it has created in their lives, and first and foremost to avoid getting infected themselves.

$500 per month pays for AIDS awareness classes and counseling for our orphaned students
$1,000 will enable us to start an Arts program at the school
$2,000 will enable us to start a Sports program at the school
$2,500 sends a Jacaranda school graduate to college for a year (tuition + boarding)
$5,000 is the price of the construction of a primary school classroom
$8,000 equips the entire secondary school with textbooks
