July 14, 2008: harvest of the vegetable planted in the Jacaranda school garden
Two months ago, the Jacaranda school students planted a variety of vegetable in the parcel of land we decided to turn into a garden. Under the guidance of their biology and agriculture teacher, primary and secondary school students planted, watered and cultivated spinach, chinese cabbage, mustard, tomatoes, etc. On July 14, the students harvested part of the garden and each took home some of the vegetable they learned how to cultivate.
Taking care of their school garden teaches children precious skills such as tending crops and being self reliant.
