Februay 16, 2009: Our first graduates!
Seven of our Form 4 students have passed the MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education):
they can now apply to go to colleges.
Seven of our students (two girls, five boys) graduated from the Jacaranda school: they passed their MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education), the national exam secondary school students must pass in order to enter university or colleges. This is a huge achievement for all of us at the Jacaranda Foundation, since these students are our first graduates. In 2007, five students took the exam but they all failed, due to the lack of resources at the school. This year, out of 15 candidates, 7 passed, a higher result than the national average success rate in Malawi (40%). These students are very derserving as they were studying within Marie's house, without desks and with very few books. And they live in very difficult conditions at home, without electricity to do their homework at night, and without parents encouraging them to go on with their studies.

Both girls who passed the exam want to become nurses; one of the boys wants to enter journalism school; the others are not sure yet. We will now advise and guide these 7 graduates and hopefully help them enter the college of their choice. If you wish to sponsor one of them to access tertiary education, please click here for more information or make a donation!
The seven Jacaranda school graduates!
Our graduates spoke to the new Form 4 class (last year of secondary school) and told their friends to "be serious, study hard and not give up" in order to pass the exam.
Our current Form 4 class: 22 students will take the MSCE this year.
