April 2008: completion of our little temporary library
We have converted the smallest room of the school-house into a library, with shelves along one of the walls. A few donors have brought or sent reading books for the children, and the children have started using the library; teachers bring the children after their classes and the secondary school students are allowed to borrow one book per week. For most of our students, it was their first time using a library, and they just could not make a choice! We only have a few books, though, as you can see with all these empty shelves, and we invite everyone to make a contribution by sending us books from age 6 to 18. We are in dire need of:

* Reading books, in English; from age 6 to 18;
Dictionaries, Encyclopedias and Reference books (history, literature, biology, physics, maths, music, etc);
Atlases, World maps, Africa maps, posters

Our address: Jacaranda school, P.O. Box 5708, Limbe, Malawi

Every contribution does help: Ginger, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, recently sent us a package with five books: "I heard about your school on the internet", she wrote in a note. "I hope this small donation helps!" It does; the five books instantly found their place in the library...

All textbooks we have for our Primary school classes
All textbooks for our Secondary school classes
We keep our textbooks in the same little room we use as a temporary library. We basically did not have any textbooks at all for our Secondary school classes until last March, when donors in the UK raised funds that allowed us to buy 75 books. This made an instant and huge difference, but we still need a lot of additional textbooks to operate in normal conditions. We also need textbooks for our Primary school classes. Please make a contribution that will directly purchase books! One textbook in Malawi costs an average of $8. Click here to help.
