January 2008: Student's house renovated
Rodrick is a Standard 3 student at the Jacaranda school. He lost his father and lives with his mother and grandmother, both unemployed. When we visited his home in Che Mboma village, not far from the school, we decided we had to do something: rainy season was approaching and the roof was leaking in several areas. One wall had totally collapsed, and the house had no windows and no doors; no wonder Rodrick was not healthy, he was sleeping every night in the open, with the rain and the wind. Thanks to a generous donation from Hansen Fernandes, who lives in the UK, we were able to fix Rodrick's house: it took two builders and three weeks of work to replace the roof with new iron sheets; to fix all the inside and outside walls with additional mud bricks; to put new windows and two new doors in place. It was almost like building a brand new house! Rodrick and his family now live in a safe, strong, decent house. Rodrick is already healthier, and we are expecting his school results to improve as well. Click here to help us support our neediest students!
